Ship and shipping have long been the most important factor of evaluation, development and advancement of the human societies.The seas have been considered as sources of food and communication routes in the past, but now they have depended on humans in the tourism and recreation industry as well as the exploitation of energy sources.
The twenty-first century will certainly be the era of the maritime economy. Currently, more than 90 percent of worldwide merchandise which has experienced a twofold increase over the past two decades and 76 percent of national level are transiting through seas. Our country possesses vast oil and gas resources and benefits from the third largest oil tanker fleet of the world, as well as the twenty-first rank of portable tonnage of ocean vessels, and is well positioned in the marine world; A great, strategic and expanding market, with more than 5,000 launches and fishing boats waiting to be renovated, in order to maintain the first ranking in the southern seas of the country, even more than the total of the seven Arab countries.
Every year, significant events in different parts of the world are taking place in the direction of introducing modern marine technologies and capabilities of the activists of this field, which shows the constant and increasing importance of this industry. Only in our country more than 14,000 marine students are interested in getting to know the latest achievements of this science; More than half of the investments in this area have been made by private sector and banking system in the country, and tens of domestic knowledge-based companies and hundreds of technical- engineering companies are working on it.
